Even though the 2014 MLB season is already a third of the way done (more or less), I figured it’s not too late to make some season predictions. I actually did write this post back in March; it’s just taken me that long to get the blog up and running again. You’ll just have to take my word on it. As you can see, some of these are already obviously waaaaaaaay off.
Last year, I managed to only get 4 of the 10 playoff teams right, so the bar has been set pretty low for improvement. And I correctly guessed the Astros would have the worst record in baseball and franchise history, although it didn’t take a genius to figure out that was happening.
So, without further ado…
2014 SEASON PREDICTIONS
- AL West: Oakland Athletics
- AL Central: Detroit Tigers
- AL East: Tampa Rays
- AL wild cards: Boston Red Sox, Arlington Rangers
- NL West: Los Angeles Dodgers
- NL Central: St. Louis Cardinals
- NL East: Atlanta Braves
- NL wild cards: San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers
- The Astros will improve slightly, but still end up losing somewhere around 100 games. What the heck, I’ll be an optimist and say 63-99.
I’ve got 5 of 6 last year’s division champs repeating, so I know I’m definitely wrong in there somewhere. As always, I’ll provide no further analysis and I refuse to make postseason predictions at this point.
I look forward to revisiting this in October to see how woefully wrong I am.
